Over 18 months, each of the hundreds of intricately detailed parts are designed, cast or fabricated, painted, decorated, and trimmed...then organized in small bins, ready for assembly. There is no substitute for the laborious tasks that each of the 35 skilled men and women perform. It is a sight to see as each team member patiently adheres each part to another, consistently analyzing the end result. Engine Co 94's History by Joe O'Brien
The 1956 Mack B95 used by Chicago were equipped with 200-gallon tanks, this was a first for Chicago engines so the placement of these Engine’s was well thought out. These Mack’s also ran frontline for 20 years, over time the shops would retro fit some of them with booster reels, and square sidewalls over the rear wheels. Tiger stripes also appeared on bumpers, the shops would eventually replace the lights with aurora borealis, and even add large white numbers on the doors. Engine 94 got its start in 1885 as a second section of Engine 17, in 1904 the 2nd piece became Engine 94. Engine 94 would move in and be a 2nd engine running out of Engine 5’s house. On New Year’s Eve 1925 a brand new 2 story 1 bay firehouse opened on the far northwest side at 5758 W. Grace. Engine 129 was organized in this house. In 1927 Engine 129 would be renumbered to become Engine 94. One thing for sure is Engine 94 has served 95 years on Grace street as Engine 94.
