FDNY E85, 1981 Mack CF. Tin House rig from the Bronx.

Posted by Martin MacKinnon on 14th May 2025

I originally passed on the FDNY E85 "TIN HOUSE" rig, since I wanted to get E45 with their Kermit the Frog: "IT'S NOT EASY BEING GREEN" motto. However, I still kept my eyes peeled for an opportunity to acquire E85. E85 was on my wish list, due to its association with E82. Well, lo & behold! On April 26th, 2025, E85 became the featured Daily Deal. E85 as an Engine Company on land had a short, but interesting history. Reorganized in 1967, E85 originally shared quarters with E82 & L31 during the early "War Years". Until it was decommissioned in 1986, E85 was later moved to a new firehouse constructed using metal cladding, hence the: "Tin House" nickname. Nice to see E85's unique details, like: "Tin House" appearing above the windshield & on each side. Also, the decals on the 2 sides showing a mosquito in a fire helmet with lightning bolts that say: "South" &: "Bronx" are nicely replicated on the model. Being a traditionalist, I've never been a big fan of yellow fire trucks. However, from a historical perspective, I really appreciate that Fire Replicas has made models available that accurately show departures from the standard type.
