Columbus, Ohio Ladder 13, 2001 ALF 110' TDA.

Posted by Martin MacKinnon on 23rd Oct 2025

So, one of the challenges inherent in picking Fire Replicas models to acquire involves choosing which one to choose, since there's typically several good choices. In the case of the 8 available Columbus, Ohio ALF (American LaFrance) TDAs (Tractor Drawn Aerials), it was tough to narrow down my options. I wanted one of the 4 earlier 2001 versions, since they all come with the ALF proprietary wraparound warning lights on the cab roof. Also, that version comes with intakes on the cab sides that have grilles with a small warning light, instead of just plain screens. Now that I was down to a choice of 4, I then had to make another decision. I chose Ladder 13 for several reasons: I really liked: "TRISKAIDEKAPHOBIA" "Fear of Thirteen" on the rear of the trailer under the tiller cab. Also, the Ohio State University mascot: "Brutus Buckeye" on both sides of the aerial was another attraction that helped settle the issue. A neat detail included in the model is the boat light on a short mast atop the rear of the cab, so that the tiller driver can more easily track the direction of the tractor's twists & turns, especially at night. This is my first TDA model with tandem rear axles on the tractor & as usual I'm well pleased with my Fire Replicas purchase.
