History of Engine 88 courtesy of Joe O'Brien - Engine 88 was organized in 1900 in a brand new 2 story frame firehouse replacing the Chicago Lawn Volunteer Fire Company. In 1913 a fire damaged the firehouse. The steamer was not pulled out in time as the fire spread, the steamer eventually fell into the basement when the floor joist burnt through. In 1927 a new 2 story brick building was built replacing the old firehouse. In 2005 the new three bay firehouse opened at 3637 W 59th street...the old firehouse still stands.
