History of Engine 25 courtesy of Joe O'Brien - Engine 25 was organized in 1874, in a temporary building on S. Halsted until the new firehouse at 1975 S. Canalport was finished. In 1961 the firehouse would be torn down to make way for the Dan Ryan Expressway. Engine 25 would move to a new Firehouse at 541 W. Taylor which was part of the Fire Academy property. Engine 25 would eventually move in with Engine 5 in 1978 as this building became the CAD center.
Engine 25’s first rig in the firehouse on Taylor was the 1949 Mack L, that moved with them in 1961. The last Engine 25 in this firehouse was the 1974 Mack MB.
Engine 25’s Mack MB would later be used by Engine 104 from 1980-1995. In 1987 it was refurbished and converted to Quick Water.
