Chicago FD E109, 1974 Mack MB/Howe.
Again with Fire Replicas, a tough choice to be made when presented with several (10) attractive options regarding basically the same model, but with different assignments. The fact that I preferred the 1974 Mack MB/Howe rigs with the warning lights on the cab roof that were separated, rather than being side-by-each eliminated half of the options, leaving 5. Then, I chose Engine Co. 109 as a tribute to my hosts that put me up during a trip to India in 2022. Their street address included the number 109. I was particularly interested in acquiring one of these models, since the neighbouring municipality of Surrey had a couple of Mack MB/HUB pumpers on their fire department roster. I noticed an interesting detail about the 1974 Mack MB/Howe rigs. The 3 bulldogs on the cab &: "MACK" above the grille are all gold. My research indicates that that means that a Mack Maxidyne engine & a Mack Maxitorque transmission were installed. I enjoy seeing distinctive equipment accurately mounted on the models that are very characteristic of Chicago fire trucks of that era: The beacons on front of the cab, the orange assignment numbers on the cab roof, the can-style spotlight at the front of the body, the small hosebed in the front bumper, & dual booster reels. As well, there's also the traditional Chicago features that are still in evidence to this very day: The red & green flashers on the cab front, the black over red paint scheme, & the classic Chicago fire extinguisher on the tailboard. Another very interesting historic replica that I really appreciate being able to add to my collection.
